The 2011 SEMA show will start next week so in this article we have a look at three of the ugliest cars shown at last year’s edition.

One of them is based on the Chrysler 300m which frankly isn’t a pretty car in its standard version, but this pimped out version looks considerably worse, featuring five Lambo doors and huge rims that look absolutely pathetic.

You’ve got to appreciate how much work they’ve put into this project car, but at the SEMA show last year it was one of the ugliest. It had an outrageous body kit with some hideous fender ports and air scoops. What made this car “special” is that pea green paint and the TV mounted on the hood.

The last one is a woody convertible and to be honest, we don’t know what car is that since it has been heavily (and dreadfully) modified. It comes with a very tacky music-themed interior and exterior, along with very ugly chrome rims.

Unfortunately, traffic accidents that involve pedestrians are quite frequent these days but from time to time you find one of these “please hit me” scam artists that want to do something stupid in order to get money from you, or better said, from your insurance firm. The rough truth is that unless if there’s a witness that has seen the entire incident, you’ll have a difficult time to prove that you are not guilty. However, if you have a camera mounted on the dashboard of your car, you won’t have such problems with these people.

The incident captured by the camera occurred somewhere in Korea, according to the person that put this video on the Internet. That scam artist is probably at his first attempt…

2012 BMW M6 (prototype)

Back in late August this year, a prototype of the upcoming 2012 BMW M6 crashed while undergoing some tests at the Nurburgring-Nordschleife. That accident occurred in wet conditions on the part of the track called the “Galgenkopf”. The driver of the car was coming around a right-sided curve and he lost the control of the M6 and hit a barrier.

This new accident also occurred on the Nurburgring-Nordschleife and the prototype of the M6 took a lot of damage, especially in the front and rear ends of the vehicle. According to the journalists from WorldCarFans, the car was undergoing a very demanding 300-lap endurance test when that accident happened, eight laps before the finish. It seems that the driver of the BMW M6 lost control of the vehicle at Fuchsrohe.

Aston Martin Rapide

This would have to be the first video where we see a live crash of an Aston Martin Rapide. The accident happened on a highway somewhere in United Kingdom and one of the reasons for this unfortunate accident was because the driver disabled the car’s traction control. He did this because he thought it was the sport button.

While he was getting out of the highway, the car understeered severely and the driver was not able to control the car anymore. The beautiful Aston Martin Rapide ended up in the side barrier and it was heavily damaged. The good news is that the driver and the passenger escaped without any injuries.

2011 Tesla Roadster

Remember Tesla’s libel battle with Top Gear? Tesla Motors has said that the 55-mile range attained by Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson in the 2008 episode of the show gave viewers a false impression of the vehicle’s real 200-mile range. The automaker has stated that this episode has had a “continuing impact” on the company’s business since that episode was aired on a lot of TV channels plus it was also sold on DVDs.

The bad news for Tesla is that they have lost the libel case with Top Gear in an UK high court. The company also made other claims against the very popular TV show and the case is still ongoing, but BBC says that the whole case should be closed.

Will Top Gear manage to do a review of the upcoming Tesla Model S? Probably not.

VW Up!

From time to time, the German carmaker VW decides to launch a matching scale replica of a recently introduced model, but this week they launched four of them that are already on sale on the official store. These replicas are for the Up!, Beetle, XL1 and the Race Touareg 3 models.

VW Beetle

The VW Up! is a small 1:87 scale model that can be ordered in several colors like: Black Pearl, While Pearl, Dark Silver Metallic and Dark Blue Metallic. The Beetle is a 1:43 scale model that can be bought in several various hues.

VW XL1

As for the XL1 diesel-electric hybrid study and the Race Touareg 3, these are also built on a 1:43 scale and VW said that they’ll make only 1,000 pieces of each. You will be able to order one until the end of this year.

Scrap metal never looked so good up until now when three German friends: Peter Brakel, Armin Ciesielski and Walter Miller decided to create this cool replica as a homage to the original model of which there are only two replicas at the Mercedes-Benz museum in Germany.

1955 Mercedes 300 SLR (scrap metal replica)

They took 10,000 pieces of scrap metal to create this stunning replica of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR “’Uhlenhaut Coupe” which weighs almost 1,000 kg. They guys behind this project have said that the engine is identical to the original one and it took them seven months of hard work mainly because there had to take into consideration a lot of intricate details. The three enthusiasts say that this replica values 60,000 pounds.

If you didn’t know, when it was tested back in 1955, the car was able to hit a top speed of 180 mph and it would have been the fastest car in the world if Mercedes had put it into production. Too bad they never did.

It took 380,000 LEGO bricks and 2,500 hours to create this 1:1 replica of the Ford Explorer which was revealed last month in Chicago. This replica has a curb weight of 2,654 pounds (1,204 kg) and it was created by LEGOLAND Florida. It has an aluminum support structure that weighs 768 pounds (348 kg).

After being revealed in Chicago, the Ford Explorer returned to Florida and is on display at the Ford Driving School.

This epic 1:4 scale R/C model truck is the work of Bordin Luca from Italy and it all started when he saw a man who was driving a model truck on a web video. Luca is a huge fan of American trucks and he loves the Peterbilt 359 so he decided to make one for himself.

He first manufactured the cabin from lightweight fiberglass while using a wooden frame. After that, he got some plastic which he polished in such a way so that it looks similar to chrome. His next step was to take two 1.5 mm thick steel pipes for creating the sturdy frame that is able to withstand heavy weights.

For powering this R/C truck he installed a 750 Watt 36-volt electric motor that motivates the back twin wheels through a sprocket-drive chain. This awesome truck measures 2.10 meters long and weighs an impressive 180 kg, which is almost 400 pounds. Probably the most interesting thing about it would have to be that it’s fully capable of pulling a Ford Mondeo Wagon with no effort whatsoever.

The electric motor generates a lot of torque but it isn’t as impressive in the sound department. However, Luca fixed this issue by installing a Tamiya sound model that imitates the sounds that trucks make. To make the sound even louder and more realistic, he also installed an audio amplifier along with two coaxial speakers. Other than that, this R/C model truck comes with a two-tone horn plus a smoke-making device for the exhaust pipes.

The entire process took 9 months and Luca doesn’t want to stop here as his plans are to build a trailer for this truck that measures a whopping 5 meters.

In the following video you’ll see probably the most courageous pigeon in the world that might have been injured because otherwise he probably wouldn’t have had the guts to cross the highway. It took two minutes but in the end he reached the other side.

DeLorean DMC-12

Those of you who are fans of the Back to the Future movies and have deep pockets will have the chance to grab a piece of movie history when the car from the third part of the series will go on auction. The car we’re talking about is one of the seven original DeLorean DMC-12 cars that were driven by Michael J. Fox during the film. Today, only three of these cars exist so you can imagine how precious it is.

The car which will go on the auction organized by Profiles in History has been in private hands for 8 years and features a full roll cage, new suspension and a V6 engine borrowed from VW. The organizers say that this DeLorean DMC-12 will fetch anywhere from at least $400,000 to $600,000. The car was used for the 1955 drive-in movie scene where Marty McFly raced back to 1985 in order to find Dr. Emmet “Doc” Brown, a character played by Christopher Lloyd.

At this auction, aside from the car there will be other artifacts that will be auctioned, including Doc’s burned toy Caddy, the Tales From Space comic, costumes, Clock Tower cables as well as a full set of five types of hoverboards. Some of the money obtained from this auction will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease. This auction will be organized on December 15-17.

What you are about to see is a driver by the name of David Besnard who barely escaped the bursting flames coming from his crashed V8 Supercar. The driver lost the control of his car while he was doing more than 143 mph (230 km/h) due to brake failure on the 112th lap of the 1000 kilometer race that was organized on the second weekend of this month in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia.

The car hit the wall rear end first which lead to the rupture of the fuel cell. The fuel that was spilled on the track ignited and the driver unstrapped himself and managed to walk away from the car. Who knows what might have happened if those acting marshals haven’t been on the scene right away.

VW Up!

There is a common trend among automakers that launch small city cars to try and prove that these vehicles are very spacious. The latest example comes from Volkswagen who took 16 of its employees and stuffed them inside the recently introduced Up! model. Two of them were in the trunk, another one on the dash, seven of them on the back seat, two in the footwells under the dash and four on the front seats. What they did is pretty impressive since the VW Up! measures only 3.54 meters long and it’s 1.64 meters wide.

VW Up!

Other recent attempts we should mention include the one from last year when 20 students were stuffed in an original VW Beetle. Another example is from 2001 when not more than 27 students from Penn State Abington got inside a New Beetle.

VW Up!

Although this isn’t an original idea since car cramming started back in the 50s, this still remains a pretty efficient marketing idea that VW has implemented for the Up! which will go on sale in Germany on December 2nd.

If the guys who made the Mad Max movies would decide to make a new one, this is the car that Mel Gibson should be driving. Anyway, this dragster can do the quarter mile in six seconds but as you can see for yourselves, it’s rather difficult to control it as apparently it likes pinball more than it should.

Staying outdoors can be very risky as there are a lot of things that could happen to us. Today we add another one to the long list of potential dangers. In this short clip we see two girls – who frankly are not the brightest bulbs in the tanning bed – that are walking a dog. A motorcycle comes crashing down on one of them but luckily she survives without any major problems.

So, the next time you’re out with a friend walking the dog and talking on your cell phone, make sure that you’re not on a dirt trail because this is what could happen:
