Ferrari 458 Spider

If you though that the 458 Coupe was beautiful, wait until you see the Spider version which is even more gorgeous. Leaked yesterday, revealed today; this would have to be the history of the Ferrari 458 Spider which features a folding hard-top roof that needs only 14 seconds in order to deploy and is made out of aluminum.

It is powered by the same engine that motivates the Italia Coupe, a V8 4.5-liter unit that develops 563 hp (570 PS / 425 kW) and a peak torque of 398 lb.-ft (540 Nm).

According to the Italian automaker, you can still have a normal conversation even though the speedometer reads 124 mph. However, I would prefer listening to the sound of the engine at that speed and save the conversation for when we stop to buy gas, which I’m sure we will have to do that quite often.

Here is an interesting drag race between three beautiful cars: the new McLaren MP4-12C, the Ferrari 458 Italia and the Porsche 911 Turbo. Most likely, this clip was recorded a couple of days ago at the MP4-12C media event which was organized in Portimao, Portugal. The result it isn’t very concluding, but it still is quite interesting to see the duel.

Speaking of McLaren, they finally revealed all the specifications of their new MP4-12C model which will have a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that outputs 592 hp (441 kW / 600 PS) and 443 lb.-ft (600 Nm) of torque. With such power under the hood, the car can sprint to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds (3.1 with the Corsa tires), onto a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h). To reach 200 km/h (124 mph), the McLaren MP4-12C needs 9.1 seconds with regular tires and 8.9 with the Corsa racing rubber.

The car’s MonoCell carbon-fiber chassis weights only 165 lbs (75 kg) which helps maintain the vehicle’s curb weight at only 2868 lbs (1301 kg). The engine is mated to a 7-speed SSG gearbox that offers three driving modes: Normal, Sport and Track.

The car will be available through a network of 35 retailers located in 19 countries and it will have a base price of about $229,000. The MP4-12C will hit the dealerships sometime this year.

No, this isn’t a race between a Ferrari 458 and a Ford F-150, it would have been irrelevant. The lucky/sad owner of this Ferrari 458 managed to drive his new red beauty only 500 miles until he crashed it. After waiting from 12-18 months to get the car, he will have to wait more to fix his 458. It seems that the car belongs to the CEO of I-Pathology and the accident took place in Brandon, Florida.

Although we can’t tell you who was responsible for this accident, some sources say that the driver of the Ferrari tried to pass illegally across a double yellow line to get into a turning lane when he “met’ the Ford F-150.

Once the investigation is over we will be able to provide more information about who was responsible for this accident. The good thing is that nobody was injured in this incident. My guess is that from the position of both cars, the fault belongs to the owner of the pickup truck but I’m curious what will the police investigators decide.

After we’ve seen a bunch of Ferraris burned last year, it seems that 2011 will be the year for accidents – hopefully not.
