The European division of Ford has announced that the frugal Fiesta ECOnetic has entered the production phase. The Blue Oval said that this is the company’s most fuel efficient and lowest emitting CO2 passenger car that they have ever made.

Under the hood is a 1.6-liter Duratorq TDCi diesel engine that delivers 95 hp (71 kW) and has a peak torque of 161 lb.-ft (205 Nm), which allows the car to return 86 mpg imp (3.3 liters / 100 km) and has CO2 emissions of just 87 g/km. According to Ford, due to the increasing demand of fuel efficient cars, 50% of the company’s car will be ECOnetic versions by the end of this year and they estimate that 66% of Fords sold in Europe in 2013 will wear the ECOnetic badge.

This ECOnetic technology developed by Ford brings Smart Regenerative Charging, Auto Start/Stop, shift indicator light, Eco Mode, optimized gear ratios, special engine calibration, undershield, low-rolling resistance tires, wheel deflectors and a lower suspension.

The ECOnetic version of the Ford Fiesta is manufactured at the company’s Cologne Assembly plant located in Germany. This frugal edition of the Fiesta is going to be available in both three- and five-door versions, along with a wide variety of trims, depending on the target market.
