To celebrate 40 years past since Steve McQueen wrote history with the famous Bullitt movie car chase, Ford decided it will produce 7,700 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt. The car is powered by a 4.6 liter V8, which features FRT (Ford Racing Technology) and delivers 315 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. Based on the Mustang GT, the Bullitt also has modified chassis, suspension, new shocks, struts and brakes, plus a new open-element air filter, used for the first time in a production Ford, which drops ambient temperature from 50 degrees down to 17 degrees Fahrenheit.
The 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt will come in the same ‘Dark Highland Green’ color scheme, and also in black (only Ford knows why). Also, the exhaust system sounds exactly like the original one, and it features a dual-exhaust system with a new H-pipe specifically developed for Bullitt with 3.5 inch chrome tips. The Bullitt rides on 18 inch cast-aluminum Euroflange wheels and has Dark Argent Gray spokes with a satin finish. Also true to the original Bullitt is the total lack of badging on the car, including (or rather excluding) spoilers, scoops and even the iconic mustang in the grill. The Bullitt will hit showrooms early next year and will have an MSRP of $31,075.
View a photo gallery after the jump (interesting is that the official photos were taken in the same place where the famous car chase took place), plus a video of the original car chase from Bullitt, in case you’ve missed it.
