Aston Martin Virage

Announced just a week ago, the Aston Martin Virage has made its official debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. This “new” 2+2 model will be placed between the automaker’s DB9 and DBS models. I can’t understand why they say that the Virage is a new model if we take into consideration that last summer they’ve launched a mild facelift for the DB9 and the cars look pretty much the same.

The Virage is in fact a DB9 with a more assertive look and it has an aluminum front grille that looks similar to the one on the very rare One-77 model. Other minor modifications include the new front bumper fascia, side skirts, and fender side strakes with incorporated LED repeater lamps and in the back a new diffuser.

Like the DB9, the Virage has the same front mid-mounted V12 6.0-liter that produces 490 hp (497 PS / 365 kW) and 420 lb.-ft (570 Nm) of torque. This engine is linked to a 6-speed Touchtronic II automatic gearbox through a carbon fiber prop shaft. The gearbox is mounted transversely on the axle, allowing the Virage to have a perfect weight distribution of 50:50.

The Aston Martin Virage can do the 0-60 mph sprint in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 186 mph (299 km/h). I have to say that for a big V12 engine, 490 hp is not very impressive; you can get that kind of power from many V8 units that are also lighter and are more fuel efficient. Nevertheless, the car is gorgeous!
