This engine is capable of developing 138 hp and is enough to allow the car to hit 62 mph in 7.9 seconds, on its way to a maximum speed of 131 mph. The power unit is linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Polo GTI has the same engine but it produces 178 hp, allowing the car to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 6.9 seconds, en route to a top speed of 142 mph.

The new Volkswagen Polo Blue GT benefits from the ACT cylinder deactivation system that is capable of closing two of the two cylinders on part throttle loads, allowing the car to return 60.1 mpg UK. When fitted with the optional 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the Polo Blue GT is capable of returning 62.7 mpg UK.
