Hyundai Elantra Coupe In The Works –

Hyundai Elantra Coupe (rendering)

If we were to believe our colleagues from Inside Line, the Korean automaker Hyundai will bring the coupe version of its beautiful Elantra model to this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. Designed to take down the Honda Civic, the coupe version will carry the same engines as its sedan sibling. The 2011MY is powered by a 4-cylinder 1.8-liter engine that produces 148 hp and has a peak torque of 131 lb.-ft.

It seems that Hyundai is also developing the hot R-spec version of the Elantra and we should see it sometime in 2012. Under the hood it will have the same engine as the one which we shall see in the sporty version of the Veloster, packing 208 ponies. This engine will most likely be mated to a 6-speed DCT gearbox.

Aside from borrowing the same engines, the coupe version of the Elantra will feature just about the same equipment as its 4-door brother, which comes in two flavors: GLS and Limited.

PS: The photo is not official, it’s a rendering. Looks great though…
