Lamborghini LM002

A senior source at Lamborghini’s parent company Audi has confirmed that the Italian automaker is working on expanding its lineup by adding a third model which will be an SUV that will be sold along with the current Gallardo and the recently introduced Aventador.

It seems that the SUV will make its first public appearance towards the end of this April at the Beijing Motor Show. The car will be considered as an upmarket rival in this segment for ther models like the Maserati Kubang and a Bentley SUV which will most likely be confirmed in the following period. Lamborghini will probably make less than 1,500 units of this new SUV and prices are estimated to start from somewhere around 120,000 pounds.

Although we don’t have any official details about Lamborghini’s new SUV, various sources are stating that the 4-seater, 5000mm-long vehicle will be powered by a retuned version the V10 5.2-liter engine that can be found in the Gallardo. Also in the works is most likely a hybrid version of the SUV which will combine the V10 power plant with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery.

The car is expected to have the same underpinnings as the next generation of the Audi Q7 which will also be the foundation for the new Bentley SUV. Known internally as the LB376, the new off-roader from Lamborghini is expected to have a curb weight of less than 2,000 kg.
