Maserati Plans Expansion Of Its Lineup –

2009 Maserati Quattroporte S

This news shouldn’t come as a surprise to most of us as we all know that just about every manufacturer in the world is working on new models to satisfy the thirst of the customers, especially if we look at the Chinese market. Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has decided that Maserati needs some new toys in its lineup and in the next couple of years we should see two new 4-door premium models: a new version of the Quattroporte and a 5-Series-sized derivative.

Pininfarina will design both models along with Fiat Auto Centro Stile. We should expect to see brand new engines, like a MultiAir turbocharged version of the V6 Pentastar, delivering 400 hp, along with a V6 turbodiesel that produces 300 hp courtesy of the latest generation of Fiat’s JTD II high-pressure diesel injection and management. We don’t know if the latter will be heading to the United States.

Most likely, both these new sedans will benefit from the all-wheel drive system of the Ferrari FF and will also feature an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission that promises great fuel efficiency.

The new version of the Quattroporte should arrive towards the end of next year while the other sedan will debut in 2013. One year later, we should see an SUV from Maserati, based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

All these additions are going to be made in order to grab as many customers as possible from the expanding Chinese market so we should give them a big thanks!
