Porsche Boxster E

A couple of months ago, the German automaker Porsche revealed that they were working on three electric prototypes based on the company’s Boxster model, but they only shared a photo and said that the electric motors generate 241 hp (180 kW).

Fortunately, after taking the Boxster E in Berlin at the Michelin Challenge last week, they released more juicy details about these three prototypes (one of them is all-wheel drive while the other two are rear-wheel drive).

The AWD model is powered by two electric motors, one installed on the front axle while the other on the rear one, generating a combined output of 241 hp (180 kW) and a peak torque of 398 lb.-ft (540 Nm) @ 12,000 rpm.

As far as the RWD models are concerned, they feature only a rear axle-mounted electric motor that produces 121 hp (90 kW) and 199 lb.-ft (270 Nm) of torque, enough for a 0-60 mph sprint in 9.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 93 mph (150 km/h).

All of these three green Porsche Boxster prototypes come with a 29 kWh lithium-ion battery that should be enough for a driving range of up to 107 miles. The battery has a curb weight of 752 pounds (341 kg) and the German engineers installed it where the combustion engine used to be. The entire car tips the scales at 3,527 pounds (1,600 kg). By using a regular socket, the battery can be charged in about 9 hours.

The company said that although there are new electric components installed on these Boxsters, there is still enough room in the front storage compartment for a luggage, along with the regular rear luggage area of the normal Boxster.
