According to the German car magazine Auto, Motor und Sport, Volkswagen will roll out the R version of the new generation of the Beetle, which will be powered by the same engine as the one found in the Golf R, which is a 2.0-liter turbocharged unit that produces 266 hp (270 PS / 199 kW) and a peak torque of 258 lb.-ft (350 Nm).

Until the hot version is released, VW will offer for the European version of the Beetle a 2.0-liter TFSI engine, the same one that powers the Golf GTI, which generates 197 hp (200 PS / 147 kW). With this engine, the Beetle will be able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 7.5 seconds while fuel consumption is rated at 7.2 liters / 100 km. The base price for model fitted with this engine is going to be 27,100 Euros.
