RPMGO Awards: Nominees for week March 19-25 | Rpmgo.com

Welcome to a new edition of RPMGO Awards, our weekly two-part feature where we see what you, the readers of our website, believed to be the best and the worst story of the week.

We’ve had our fair share of great and not so great events this week, and it’s going to be a pretty tough vote in both categories. Without further ado, let’s get right to it.

Perfect Shift

McLaren will only make sportscars, no sedans or SUVs – McLaren is taking its new role in performance carmaking quite seriously, and has already revealed that it won’t go the Porsche route of making SUVs or sedans, just proper two-seater sportscars. Nice!

Video: First pic of Ferrari 599 GTO leaked – The Ferrari 599 GTO is eagerly anticipated by any red-blooded fan of the Prancing Horse, so you can imagine that the first leaked photo of the powerful model would arouse many people. Hopefully some clearer shots, alongside official details, aren’t that far away.

Track-only Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 revealed – The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is already a proper supercar, but slap a huge wing, plenty of racing accessories and track-only equipment, and you’ve got something we dream of taking on the track. Now … about that loan we’ve been wanting …

Ford and GM’s power war – Ford and GM are seemingly locked in an HP war this week, as rumors about both carmakers trying to one-up each other in terms of performance are appearing left and right. Ford wants to take the power crown from GM’s Duramax heavy duty diesel engine by upgrading its own Power Stroke diesel. In terms of muscle cars, GM wants to upgrade the Chevrolet Camaro’s V6 to take on the 2011 Ford Mustang’s own V6 engine, which delivers 1 more HP and improved fuel efficiency.

Over Rev

Rich guy got so drunk he lost a Lamborghini – The title says it all, it seems money can’t buy you common sense or even a private chauffeur, as a real estate tycoon went out binge drinking and completely forgot where he parked his Lamborghini Gallardo model.

Tata Nano models experiencing “slight” problem: they catch fire – Think Toyota owners have it bad with unintended acceleration problems? Well they got nothing on some Tata Nano owners, as the tiny, low-cost Indian model could burst into flames at any time. As Paris Hilton would put it, “that’s hot!”

Facepalm: 80% of BMW 1 Series owners think the car is front-wheel drive – We really like the BMW 1 Series around here. Its great hatchback body style plus rear-wheel drive make it a win-win in our book. Sadly, it seems a lot of owners should just turn in their models, as a whopping 80% of them believe the 1 Series is actually a front-wheel drive model. Facepalm has never been so true.

Pagani Zonda crash results in $449,000 insurance claim – Most of us have only gotten out of insurance companies small amounts of money, usually for scratches on the paint or slight bumps while parking. A test driver broke all records though when he crashed a Pagani Zonda model he was trying out. The damage? Just $449,000 (or £300,000).
