This is some really sad news. Saturday, former British rally champion Colin McRae crashed while flying his helicopter, close to his residence in Scotland. Besides the driver, in the helicopter there where three more persons, among which there was Colin’s 4 year old son. Nobody survived.

Colin McRae was the first British driver to become world rally champion, in 1995, with Subaru. He was one of Britain’s best rally drivers, winning 25 rallies and 42 podium finishes in his career. And for those of you who haven’t seen him race, you’ve probably heard of the very popular video game, Colin McRae Rally, I sure did played it with my friends for hours. Again, this is a sad day, because, at only 39 years old, motorsport loses one of the best and most loved pilots. Rest In Peace, Colin! View some of Colin McRae’s career stats after the jump.

We wrote yesterday about Ford announcing that Jaguar and Land Rover are for sale and today we have some updates for you. Indian manufacturer Mahindra backed out and rumors say that was caused by the new CO2 emissions limits which will be introduced in the European Union most likely in 2012. It appears that this emission limit was an important factor in Ford’s decision to put the two brands for sale.

But another producer from India, Tata, looks like a really serious bidder, especially that it looks like they will get some help from Italian giant, Fiat, who is already Tata’s partner in India. Tata, which is currently looking to expand outside India could benefit from Fiat’s experience in running global automobile business.

Honda made a press release in which announced that they will recall 182,756 Honda Civics, because of some problems at the wheel bearings. “The wheel speed sensor housing uses an O-ring seal to prevent leakage to or from the wheel bearing. If assembled improperly, the O-ring may not seal properly allowing water to enter the wheel bearing and eventually cause damage to the bearing” says the press release.

So what exactly does this mean? Well, this means that you might lose a wheel or two. So hurry and take you Civic back to the dealer or you might face some really embarrassing situations. Read the entire press release after the jump.

Here’s a funny ad we came across. Wearing the tagline “This is what happens if you don’t have Quattro”, the ad aims at the new BMW M3 and want to show that the RS4 is better. I can’t say I agree, but the ad is nice though. Click on the image to enlarge it.

Despite great recent models, I don’t think that the guys over at Audi are pretty smart. Because I can’t explain how, in the middle of the Frankfurt Motor Show they decided to send this guy on the streets, with the upcoming Audi A3 Cabrio completely naked, without any traces of camouflage. I mean, they might as well announce the damn thing, it’s no longer a secret to nobody. But hey, who are we to judge? See one more photo after the jump.

Here is a BMW prototype caught on the street of Munich. And almost sure this is the next BMW V Series, BMW’s response to Mercedes’ R Class , which has a notable success (don’t ask me why). The first impression is that BMW is pretty late with this car, because the R Class has been available for over a year now, so what’s BMW going to bring new that will take customers from Mercedes? Well, BMW will have a more sportive approach for this car, with the hatchback-like back, similar somehow to the BMW X6 presented these days at Frankfurt.

Doesn’t look that bad, but I am skeptical, because I find wagon style cars and sport style completely unmatchable. Plus I don’t understand why this is called “V” Series, no 9-Series, no 10-Series, no nothing, it’s “V” Series. Strange. But hey, who am I to interfere with BMW’s happiness. View some more spy shots after the jump.

At the Tokyo Auto Show, which will take place this October, Mazda plans to introduce a new “green” material which will be used to make the seat covers and door trims. Called “Biotechmaterial“, the fabric is made of “polylactic acid, a plastic made from fermented carbohydrates such as plant sugars” (yeah, we also wish they’ll speak English next time) and will be an alternative for current oil-based materials used now.

The “Biotechmaterial” fabric, developed with Teijin Fibers will be used for the interior of the Mazda Premacy Hydrogen RE Hybrid (will be on display at Tokyo), vehicle which also uses “bioplastic” (material developed by Mazda last year) in the instrument panel.
