Spy Shots: 2012 Chevrolet Malibu – rpmGo.com

2012 Chevrolet Malibu

Autoblog’s photographers have managed to take a couple of shots with the upcoming 2012 Chevrolet Malibu (aka Epica in other markets outside the US borders). This almost-done prototype they’ve spied shows us what to expect from the forthcoming generation of the Malibu.

The car will roll on the shortened version of GM’s Epsilon II platform, which has been used for the Buick LaCrosse and Regal models. However, the car you see in these spy shots looks a little bit longer and wider in comparison to the outgoing model. Chevrolet has added its signature Bowtie grille in the LaCrosse-inspired front end – it looks surprisingly good in my opinion.

General Motors will most likely offer 4-cylinder engines for the 2012 Malibu, just like Hyundai does with the Sonata. This means that the new gen model will be available with a naturally-aspirated 2.4-liter power plant and a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Most likely, a hybrid version will be launched sometime in the future, along with an AWD model.

The production of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu will start at the end of 2011, which means that the car will probably get its official debut next month at the New York Auto Show.
