Our colleagues from Auto Express have managed to grab the first spy shots with the upcoming Hyundai ix45 while it was undergoing some tests on public roads. When it will come out, the ix45 will replace the successful Santa Fe and it is scheduled for a UK release in the second part of next year, possibly in November/December. Insiders have said that the car will be available in both FWD or AWD configurations and the cabin will be able to accommodate up to seven passengers.

This will be the fifth model in the company’s lineup that will adopt the “Fluidic Sculpture” design and it will borrow some styling ideas from the Nuvis concept which was unveiled back in 2009 during the New York Motor Show. This Fluidic Sculpture has been used so far for the i40, ix35 and the ix20 as well as the U.S. exclusive Grandeur model.

Some say that the car will benefit from a new lineup of engines, including a 2.0-liter CRDi diesel and a 2.0-liter direct injection gasoline power unit. As standard, all of the variants will come with a 6-speed manual gearbox and clients will be able to order their ix45 with an optional automatic transmission.

Also in the works at Hyundai is a more frugal Active Blue Drive-badged diesel that will be able to return 60 mpg UK. It will be powered by a 1.7-liter CRDi diesel engine and is set to go head-to-head with the soon-to-be-released diesel-powered Mazda CX-5 that promises to do approximately 65 mpg UK.
