2012 Geneva Motor Show – Range Rover Evoque Convertible

Range Rover Evoque Convertible

I’ve always liked the looks and style of the Range Rover Evoque but the idea of a convertible SUV is just ridiculous, but at least it is better than the hideous Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet. Anyway, Land Rover has introduced the concept at the Geneva Motor Show and in the next few months it will analyze whether they will put the model into production. The idea behind this concept is to figure out if there is a market for such a car, a method that Land Rover used before when they developed the DC100 concepts which could form the foundation of the new Defender.

Range Rover Evoque Convertible

The convertible version of the Range Rover Evoque could be 2WD or 4WD and either gasoline- or diesel-powered. According to the engineers from Land Rover, about 75kg of strengthening is necessary in comparison to the hard-top sibling which as you probably know is a huge success for the British automaker.

Range Rover Evoque Convertible

If the car will get the green light for production, Land Rover is going to spend two years for engineering the car before they will be able to actually sell this model. Most likely, the car will be manufactured at the company’s Halewood factory. The regular Evoque has been sold so far in approximately 50,000 units and the company has already got orders for another 60,000 cars so this convertible version might boost sales even further.

Range Rover Evoque Convertible

The concept shown at the event in Switzerland has a fully retractable roof system and can seat four people. It also benefits from a roll-over protection system while inside the cabin it has a lot of goodies, such as an 8-inch dual touchscreen display, surround cameras, Terrain Response, Meridian sound system and others as well. It rides on 21-inch alloys and comes in a metallic Causeway Grey paint.

Range Rover Evoque Convertible

If this drop-top version of the Range Rover Evoque will be produced, it will cost approximately 10-15% more than the 3-door hard-top version so it will carry a price tag of approximately 30,795 pounds in today’s money.

Range Rover gets three special editions

The current generation of the Range Rover has reached its 10th anniversary and for this occasion the British automaker Land Rover has decided to launch not one, but three special editions of the popular SUV. Most likely these can be considered as the last hurrah before the next generation of the Range Rover will make its debut this summer.

The 4.4 TDV8 Vogue and Vogue SE models will be replaced by the Westminster edition in March when it will hit the dealerships at a starting price of 69,995 pounds. The car features a bespoke “Noble” finish for the side vents and the front grille, along with a new design for the 20-inch alloy wheels. Aside from these, the SUV will also feature special Westminster badging.

Inside the cabin of this edition we notice the Grand Black trim and special carpets. This Range Rover also gets heated and cooled seats, as well as an upgraded audio system. Clients will be able to choose from one of the seven exterior paint finishes and one of the five interior trim themes.

Both the 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography and the 5.0 V8 Supercharged Autobiography specials will feature the Range Rover Design Pack in the standard configuration. The front and rear bumpers get a look, while the front grille adopts a “Titan” theme. Both versions will be riding on 20-inch alloy wheels that are finished in Shadow Chrome.

Inside the cabin of these two special editions of the Range Rover there will be the Seat Style pack as standard which means that the rear seats are heated + cooled, plus they can recline. Aside from this, the seats come with lumbar adjustment, while the front passenger seat can be adjusted forward in order to improve the rear legroom.

The price for the TDV8 model will start from 84,295 pounds, while the more powerful Supercharged model has a base price of 86,896 pounds.

Range Rover Evoque by Startech

For those of you who haven’t heard about Startech, they are a branch of Brabus, the very famous Mercedes-Benz tuners. The Range Rover Evoque you see in these photos will make its first public appearance at the upcoming 2011 Dubai International Auto Show. At the moment, they’ve only created a bodykit for the sexy crossover, but they are also working on a power boost for the 2.0-liter SI4 gasoline engine.

Range Rover Evoque by Startech

The aero kit for the Evoque brings a new front fascia that was developed in the wind tunnel and has bigger air vents. According to Startech, the new front spoiler of the car can increase the downforce on the front axle.

At the back, we find a new rear bumper that has an integrated diffuser, along with a roof spoiler and a new set of tail pipes. The crossover can ride on 21- or 22-inch alloys that have a cool dark finish. The new suspension system developed by the tuner for this model can lower the ride height by up to 35 mm.

Spy shots – 2013 Range Rover

2013 Range Rover

The new generation of the Range Rover will arrive in 2013 and it is expected to feature a lightweight rivet-bonded aluminum chassis which is based on a modified platform that underpins the XJ model. By implementing this new lightweight material, the car will probably be up to 40% lighter in comparison to the current model so it is expected to be 660-880 pounds lighter.

For certain elements like the rear tailgate and the body panels, the company’s engineers will use advanced composites. As a result, the car will have a curb weight similar to that of a fully-loaded luxury sedan, promising to bring better fuel efficiency and increased performance. Some of the models are expected to deliver 33.3 mpg in the combined cycle.

2013 Range Rover

Land Rover will use the same platform for the Range Rover Sport that will replace the LR4 model in the company’s lineup and it will be available for the first time in its history with a 7-seat configuration.

The photographers from Motor Authority have managed to grab a few spy shots with one of the prototypes while conducting some tests in Germany. Also known as the L405, the new generation of the Range Rover appears to be a little bit longer compared to the model you see on the roads today, while the roofline will be lowered significantly. As a result, the offroader will look smaller and it should have a lower drag.

2013 Range Rover

As for the engines, most likely these will be borrowed from the current generation model, including here the V8 5.0-liter supercharged and naturally aspirated engines, along with a few new turbodiesels that will probably be available only in Europe since the U.S. is not a big fan of diesels. The British automaker will also be working on a hybrid version of the Range Rover that will be able to return somewhere around 33 mpg.

2013 Range Rover

The new generation of the Land Rover Range Rover will probably make its official debut next March at the 2012 edition of the Geneva Motor Show or later on in April at the New York Auto Show.

New Info About 4th Generation Range Rover Emerge

Land Rover Range Rover (rendering)

The fourth generation of the highly successful Land Rover Range Rover will be launched in fall 2012 and according to company insiders, it promises to be the most radical and technically advanced model in the entire history of the British brand.

This rendering was created by the guys from Autocar.co.uk by using accurate info from Land Rover sources to show how the all-new Range Rover will look like when it will replace the current third generation model that was launched more than a decade ago.

Known within the company as the L405, the new Range Rover will adopt some of the styling of the sleek Evoque and as a consequence it will ditch some of the design cues of the model that have been around for decades. The interior cabin of the SUV promises to offer a considerably higher level of quality and luxury.

The vehicle is going to be manufactured around an all-new pressed aluminum monocoque so it will lose some weight compared to the current model, although it will be bigger. Autocar says that the British engineers will manage to shave off about 500 kg and the new model will be 25 mm longer.

With this newly developed architecture, the rear wheels of the Range Rover have been pushed further towards the back of the vehicle and the advantage is that the new model will offer more legroom by up to 125mm and thanks to the fact that the rear doors will be longer, the cabin access will be further improved as well.

Compared to today’s Range Rover Sport, the fourth generation of the SUV will adopt a more sloping roofline and a more steeply raked windscreen while the headlamps will be less obtrusive and slimmer. The vent in the front wing will be slanted in order to reflect the angle of the car’s windscreen.

The car will be motivated by the same array of V6 & V8 diesels, as well as V8 and supercharged V8 engines. Some say that Land Rover also plans on offering a gasoline V6 and a supercharged V6 gasoline unit. The new gasoline V6 might make it into a hybrid version of the Range Rover which the automaker previewed earlier this year when they’ve unveiled the Range_e concept. Most likely, it will adopt a 69 kW electric motor which will be incorporated in the 8-speed automatic gearbox. It will feature a 14 kWh battery and it will be able to offer a drive range of up 20 miles on electric mode.

Compared to the current model, all of the next generation variants of the Range Rover will be considerably more frugal thanks mostly to the implementation of the pressed & riveted aluminum monocoque we’ve mentioned before. It is expected that the entry-level Range Rover TDV6 model will have CO2 emissions of less than 200 g/km.

Next-gen Range Rover Spied

Next-gen Range Rover

Our esteemed colleagues from Auto Express have captured a few spy shots with the upcoming generation of the Land Rover Range Rover. Set to rival the Porsche Cayenne as well as the soon-to-be-released Maserati Kubang and Bentley’s SUV, the all-new Range Rover will feature a more modern appearance, rounding off the edges and adding LED daytime running lights.

Next-gen Range Rover

Compared to the current model, the new one will weigh 500 kg less thanks to the implementation of an aluminum chassis which will lower the overall weight of the car to about 2,000 kg. Aside from going on a diet, the new Range Rover will be motivated by a revised 4.4-liter diesel engine that will develop 320 hp. The engine is going to be mated to an updated 8-speed automatic transmission that will feature the stop/start technology. This means that the CO2 emissions will be reduced from the current 253 g/km to less than 180 g/km, while fuel economy will be up to 35 mpg UK.

Next-gen Range Rover

Also in the works are a V6 engine and a beefier V8 supercharged 5.0-liter unit. Rumors say that the British engineers are also working on a hybrid variant that will have an electric motor attached to the gearbox.

Next-gen Range Rover

As for the interior cabin, expect to see more rear space for the passengers, due to some complaints that the current Range Rover is not spacious enough in the back. In addition, the car will get a whole bunch of gadgets, like direct syncing of smartphones as well as integration of devices like a tablet for the rear seat entertainment.

Next-gen Range Rover

The new generation of the Land Rover Range Rover is scheduled to make its official debut in March 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show. Sales are expected to commence in the summer for a base price of about 70,000 pounds, which is more than the current model.
