The seventh generation of the Porsche 911 has finally arrived in the United States, after more than six months since it was introduced. Clients will be able to choose for the moment from the Carrera and Carrera S versions which are longer, wider and lower than their predecessors, as well as 100 lbs. lighter.
2012 Porsche 911
The 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera is motivated by a 3.4-liter boxer engine that generates 350 hp and is mated to a double clutch PDK transmission which allows the vehicle to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 4.4 seconds, on its way to a maximum speed of 179 mph.
2012 Porsche 911
The Carrera S is equipped with a bigger 3.8-liter boxer engine that pumps out 400 hp and does the 0-62 mph sprint in 4.1 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 188 mph.
The basic Carrera costs $82,100 while the Carrera S will set you back at least $96,400.
The tuners from SpeedART have announced a few days ago that their tuning program for the recently introduced Porsche 911 (991) will be making an appearance at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show which will be organized in March this year.
The car will adopt a new SP91-R package that will have a “CS-rear wing” and it will ride on LSC forged wheels that measure 21 inches. Inside the cabin, the SpeedART SP91-R features a new sport steering wheel, Alcantara / leather trim and also “many” other goodies.
The 3.4-liter boxer engine will be getting a revised ECU and a sports exhaust system which will allow the power unit to generate an additional 25 hp (25 PS / 18 kW) and 15 lb.-ft (20 Nm) of torque.
The guys from Auto Express have taken the other day a few spy shots with the upcoming Porsche 911 Cabriolet. Its Coupe sibling is set to go on sale towards the end of this year, while for the Cabriolet we don’t have an official release date but it is expected to go on sale towards the end of next year.
The photos show us a thinly disguised prototype that had its roof on and despite the fact that the headlights were pretty much covered by some oversized stickers, it’s more than obvious that it will have the same bigger headlights that we’ve seen in the Coupe, along with the thin taillights and the LED daytime running lights.
Porsche 911 Cabriolet
Even though the new model will be a little bit heavier than the Coupe, it will still be 45 kg lighter than the model it will replace. They’ve managed to do this by using a lot of aluminum in the body while the roof is made from fabric which is stretched over semi-rigid panels for keeping the weight down to a minimum while at the same time increasing insulation.
The most affordable Porsche 911 Cabriolet will be motivated by a flat-six 3.4-liter engine that produces 20 hp more than the previous model which means that it will be capable of developing 345 hp, while the hotter Carrera S will offer 394 hp from its 3.8-liter unit. The standard variant will be able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 4.5 seconds, while the “S” in 4.2 seconds.
Porsche 911 Cabriolet
After the launch of this model, Porsche will roll the four-wheel drive versions of the 911s. The Turbo version is set to arrive in 2013 and it come with 4WD as well as a wider body. At the back it will have a 3.8-liter turbocharged engine which will most likely produce more than 500 hp. The lighter and more track-focused GT3 models will go on sale in late 2013 / early 2014. Drawing their inspiration from the 911 GT3 R Hybrid race cars, the German automaker will launch a hybrid 911 in 2014.
The sixth generation of the legendary Porsche 911 was officially unveiled a couple of weeks ago and we’ve learned that it will spawn a whole bunch of derivates. If we were to believe the guys from CAR, the next sibling will be the 911 Cabriolet which is set to debut this year.
Towards the end of 2012 we will see the AWD versions of the Carrera 4 and the Carrera 4S which will be available in coupe and cabrio configurations. The 911 Turbo is scheduled for a 2013 release and it will be motivated by a 520 hp (527 PS / 387 kW) engine. 2014 will be the year when the Cabrio Turbo version will be launched. But before that, in 2013 Porsche will roll out the 911 GT3, while at the end of 2014 the 911 Targa will go on sale, featuring a removable roof panel.
These are only just a few variants of the 911 (991), because the German automaker is also working on the GT2, the RS and others as well, along with some overpriced special editions. What’s even more interesting is that the current generation of the 911 will have a lifespan of 14 years.
After months of anticipation we finally get to see the new generation of the legendary Porsche 911 (codenamed 991). As you can see, the styling changes brought by the company’s design boss Michael Mauer are subtle, for both the standard Carrera and the hotter Carrera S.
Porsche 911 (991)
Looking at the front of the car we notice a sleeker and cleaner front bumper that has a somewhat new look, along with revised headlights and air intakes, which were modified in order to increase the aerodynamic efficiency. They borrowed the LED detailing from the 918 Spyder concept while the door mirror housings sit outboard on the doors.
Porsche 911 (991)
The most significant modifications can be observed at the back where we see a considerably sleeker design for those slimmed-down taillights. They also reshaped the electrically-operated rear wing for improving aerodynamic efficiency and also increase the downforce above 75 mph. The new model has only three engine cover openings, whereas the outgoing one had five of them.
Porsche 911 (991)
Despite the fact that the design of the car remains pretty much the same, Porsche’s engineers modified the proportions of the new 911 in order to offer better stability and safety, while at the same time improving the interior space, especially the legroom in the back. The car’s wheelbase has been extended with the front & rear overhands reduced so that they could minimize the increase of the overall length. The new one measures 4491 mm long, 1873 mm wide and 1299 mm high, which makes it 56 mm longer, 65 mm wider and 11 m lower than the model it replaces.
Porsche 911 (991)
No surprises as far as the layout of the engine as it still remains in the back, just like the first generation model which came out in 1963, but the mounting points have suffered some changes so that the weight distribution would be better.
Porsche 911 (991)
The Porsche 911 (991) has a MacPherson front strut suspension which will also be used for the new generation of the Boxster which will be launched sometime in 2013. At the back it has a revised multi-link suspension. Most of the chassis is made out of aluminum which is a novelty for the 911. They used high-tensile steels for the crash structures while the bodywork also uses aluminum, with the exception of the rear which features a steel configuration. By using aluminum, Porsche’s engineers have managed to reduce the weight of the car by 45 kg, although it comes with beefier brakes, wheels and tires.
Porsche 911 (991)
The hotter Carrera S is going to be motivated by an updated version of the company’s 6-cylinder 3.8-liter engine which was also used for the outgoing model, only this time the new one unleashes 400 hp while the old one churns “only” 380 ponies. The base 911 Carrera is going to be propelled by a 6-cylinder 3.4-liter, rather than the old 3.6-liter. However, it manages to produce more power than the 997 model as it offers 350 hp, whereas the old one can provide 341 hp. The entry-level Carrera comes with a twin exhaust pipe configuration while the S version has a quad pipe arrangement.
Porsche 911 (991)
The car’s engine will be linked to a 7-speed manual transmission which is a novelty in the industry. As a matter of fact, this new one is basically a manual-controlled single clutch version of the company’s traditional PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Clients will be able to order the new 911 with an optional 7-speed automatic transmission.
Porsche 911 (991)
The first units of the Porsche 911 (991) will reach the customers towards the end of this year. Prices will be revealed later on.
We are all waiting for the official debut of the new generation of the 911 which will occur this week at Frankfurt but this doesn’t mean that we should entirely forget about the outgoing model. The German tuners from TechArt have taken the soon-to-be-replaced 911 (997) and dubbed it GTStreet RS.
New name means more power coming from the engine and now the car develops an additional 100 PS, for a grand total of 720 PS (530 kW) and a massive peak torque of 664 lb.-ft (900 Nm). The car is capable of doing the 0-62 mph sprint in 3.3 seconds, en route to a top speed of 219 mph (352 km/h).
Design-wise, as you can see it has been fitted with a new bodykit that includes a front apron that has not only a fixed carbon splitter but also an adjustable one which is made out of polyurethane-RIM. Other than that, it comes with more air vents, a rear apron that incorporates a diffuser, a carbon fiber rear spoiler and air wings made out of the same material.
This tuned Porsche 911 GT2 developed by TechArt has a hydraulic nose lift system, along with huge 20-inch Formula Race lightweight wheels with central locking. Inside the cabin, the GTStreet RS features aluminum pedals and many carbon fiber inserts.
Although the next generation of the Porsche 911 is set to debut in just a couple of days, the German automaker did not forget to update its current 911 (997) GT3 R model and the most important one would have to be the revised 6-cylinder 4.0-liter engine that has a more efficient intake system.
2012 Porsche 911 GT3 R
The power unit manages to deliver 493 hp (500 PS / 368 kW), which is 20 hp (20 PS / 15 kW) than the model it replaces. Other than that, the 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 R also comes with a softer front anti-roll bar as well as a revised 6-speed sequential gearbox that features steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
2012 Porsche 911 GT3 R
The delivers to racing team for this model will start in November and the base price tag is $434,170 (304,500 Euro).
It sure was a long ride, but now it’s over. Porsche has finally decided to show us its highly anticipated new generation of the legendary 911. Just like we reported a few days ago, the new model has been stretched a little bit and its wheelbase will be 3.9 inches (10 cm / 100 mm) longer than the outgoing model.
2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupé
A novelty of this model would have to be its body that is made out of aluminum-steel, which was designed in order to lower the overall weight of the car and at the same time improve its rigidity. The car rides on 20-inch alloys and it comes with a wider track at the front.
2012 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupé
Raising that rear bonnet of the standard Carrera reveals the 3.4-liter boxer power unit that churns 345 hp (350 PS / 257 kW). More muscles are available with the hotter Carrera S which will feature a bigger 3.8-liter engine that generates 394 hp (400 PS / 294 kW).
2012 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupé
The S model fitted with Porsche’s famous PDK gearbox will be able to hit 62 mph from start in only 4.3 seconds. If that isn’t quick enough, you might want to get the optional Sport Chrono package that includes a Sport Plus function which will lower the sprint time by 0.2 seconds. The regular Carrera needs 4.6 second to do this, but you can fit this also with that package, reducing sprint time to 4.4 seconds.
2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupé
The list of tech goodies doesn’t end here as the 2012 Porsche 911 (991) will feature the company’s Dynamic Chassis Control, which will be a premiere for the Carrera S. What this does is optimize cornering via distributing the lateral forces in a clever way.
The car will make its official debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show and will go on sale this December. If you’re really anxious, you can make a preorder starting with September 1st.
Now let’s have a look at its price tag. Well, in homeland Germany the base 911 Carrera will cost 88,038 Euro while the Carrera S will have a starting price of 102,436 Euro, including VAT. The car will reach UK on December 17th and will cost 71,449 pounds for the standard Carrera while the S will be 81,242 pounds. U.S. citizens will be able to get it for $82,100 (standard) and $96,400 (S), without taking into consideration the destination charges.
Yet another special/limited edition of the outgoing Porsche 911 Carrera will be launched, dubbed the GTS B59. This one will be rolled out in order to celebrate Hurley Haywood’s five overall wins at the famous 24 Hours of Daytona. They’ll make only five cars and each will have a base price of $133,540.
Porsche 911 Carrera GTS B59
The car will be available with a Carrara White exterior finish with black-painted mirrors, along with retro racing stripes and a set of 19-inch Sport Classic rims. As far as the cabin is concerned, it will have black leather seats, stainless steel door plates with Haywood’s signature, along with an Alcantara trim.
Porsche 911 Carrera GTS B59
Just like the regular GTS, this one will come with a 6-cylinder 3.8-liter engine that develops 402 hp (408 PS / 300 kW) and a peak torque of 310 lb.-ft (420 Nm). The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS B59 will be able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 4.4 seconds, before reaching a maximum speed of 190 mph (306 km/h).
After months of spy shots, rumors, time has come for the last step before the official announcement, the leak. Set to make its debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show, we now have the first photos with the 2012 Porsche 911 (codenamed 991) in all its glory, without any camouflage whatsoever.
2012 Porsche 911
Design-wise, nothing much to report as the cars looks just about the same as the previous generations, with only a few mild updates here and there. The front bumper will be a little bit sleeker and cleaner, while the headlights and the air intakes have been designed in order to increase the aerodynamic efficiency. In addition, it will come with new LED detailing, borrowed from the 918 Concept. The sides of the car reveal new door mirror housings which now have been installed outboard on the doors as opposed to being in the blanked-off quarter panel at the A-pillar’s base.
2012 Porsche 911
The most significant modifications about the styling of the car can be found at the back, where we see a sleeker look for the taillights which are slimmer now. The rear wing, which is electrically operated, has been reshaped for improving aerodynamic efficiency as well as to increase downforce when the car has a speed of more than 75 mph. In addition, the numbers of the openings in the power unit cover is three, down from the previous five.
The wheelbase of the upcoming 2012 Porsche 911 is now longer while the front & rear overhangs have been reduced to minimize the increase of the car’s overall length. The new generation of the 911 is 56 mm longer, 65 mm wider and 11 mm lower than the outgoing 911(997), measuring 4491 mm x 1873 mm x 1299 mm.
2012 Porsche 911
It will have the same rear-engined configuration as of all the 911s since the first one hit the market back in 1963, with a few modifications of the engine’s mounting points for improving the weight distribution of the vehicle.
The chassis of the car is mostly made out of aluminum, a novelty for a 911. In addition, the bodywork is made from aluminum while at the back they’ve used steel. By implementing more aluminum, the German engineers managed to lower the curb weight of the car by 45 kg, although the new model has bigger brakes, rims and tires.
2012 Porsche 911
The Porsche 911 S will come with an updated version of the 6-cylinder 3.8-liter engine which will produce 400 hp, as opposed to the current generation which has “only” 380 hp. The entry-level 911 Carrera will feature a 6-cylinder 3.4-liter unit which will output 350 hp. The Carrera will come with a twin exhaust pipes configuration while the hotter Carrera S will get quad pipes.
2012 Porsche 911
The new generation of the 911 will come with a 7-speed manual gearbox, which will be a premiere in the industry. Basically, this is the manually-controlled single-clutch version of the PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. Clients will still be able to get the car with the 7-speed PDK auto when the car will go on sale.
2012 Porsche 911
The first units of the 2012 Porsche 911 will be delivered before the end of 2011. Stay tuned for more information from Frankfurt Motor Show where the car will get its official debut and we’ll know all the details.
The 911 GT3 Cup racer has been updated by Porsche in order to make it “suitable for an even wider range of endurance racing.” One of the major changes brought to the car would have to be the inclusion of a 100-liter FT3 safety fuel tank that can be filled through an opening in the hood.
In addition, the car now rides on a brand new set of 18-inch alloys that are wrapped around in Michelin race tires. The German engineers have also fitted the car with adjustable blade-type anti-roll bars that can be adjusted in seven different positions.
Porsche 911 GT3 Cup
The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is powered by the same 6-cylinder 3.8-liter engine that produces 444 hp you will find in the GT3 RS. While for the road car the ceramic composite brakes are optional, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup models get them as standard.
In comparison to the road-legal version, the Cup version is 170 kg lighter and it weighs only 1.2 tones In addition, it packs larger front & rear spoilers for increased downforce.
If you didn’t know, the 911 GT3 Cup is the most popular customer race car in the entire world as Porsche managed to deliver more than 2200 units.
Deliveries for this freshened 911 GT3 Cup will start in September and will be used in this configuration for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
The base price for the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is 141,800 pounds + VAT.
Porsche has decided to roll out a teaser for its highly anticipated next generation of the very popular 911 (991) which will make its official debut later on this year, probably at the Frankfurt Motor Show which will occur this September. This clip was recorded somewhere in South Africa and offers us a glimpse on what to expect from the new 911.
As a reminder, the Carrera S version is going to be powered by a 400 HP engine while the standard Carrera is going to share its 3.4-liter (350 hp) with the Boxster S model. Customers will be able to choose from one of the two transmissions available, a 7-speed PDK and my personal favorite, a 7-speed manual. For both transmissions the German supercar maker will offer the Launch Control.
The 2012 Porsche 911 is going to be 2.5 inches wider than the outgoing model and it will also have a 4 inches longer wheelbase. This longer wheelbase will accommodate the future HYBRID drivetrain which will be out sometime in 2016 when the mid-cycle refresh will arrive. The new 911 promises to be 12-15% more fuel efficient than the model it replaces and it is going to get an electronic parking brake as well as a full-length sunroof.
As standard, the 911 Carrera is going to ride on 19-inch rims, while the Carrera S gets 20-inch alloys. Buyers can opt for the optional 20 inch alloy wheels for the standard Carrera model.
You probably have heard of Singer Vehicle Design, the engineers that came up with the retro-modern cool Porsche 911 a while ago. This week, they’ve announced a partnership with Cosworth, the legendary British engineering company.
Singer’s 911 model features a modified body of the 1960s Porsche 911, but underneath it is as modern as it can be, combining the very best from both worlds. Singer Vehicle Design (SVD) is using flat-six air-cooled engines for their special 911 and already they’ve managed to sell three cars. From now one, customers will get the car with one of the three Cosworth engines offered. The Singer Porsche 911 Cosworth is going to be available with three performance levels.
Singer Porsche 911
The entry-level “Touring” is offered with a 3.6-liter engine that outputs 300 hp, the mid-range “Sport” with a 3.9-liter engine that churns 380 hp, along with the top-spec “Cup” model that will host a 3.9- to 4.0-liter engine that generates more than 425 hp.
In addition, Singer teamed up with Aria Group who will be in charge of preparing, painting and delivering the carbon fiber bodies.
Singer Porsche 911
Interested in this car? Well, you have to know that the base model will set you back $190,000 while the “Cup” costs more than $300,000.
We’ve seen many spy shots before with the forthcoming 2012 Porsche 911, but these ones uploaded here are the clearest. Our colleges from WCF have managed to grab these shots with the car while doing some tests on the famous Nurburgring track in Germany. In these pictures we can see the car’s adjustable rear spoiler along with other minor modifications in comparison to the outgoing model (997).
2012 Porsche 911
It has a bulkier and rounder rear-end, along with a stretched wheelbase. In addition, the car is going to be 56 mm longer than the current 911 and the wheelbase will also be stretched by 10 mm, along with an 11 mm decrease in height.
2012 Porsche 911
The entry-level model will feature a 3.4-liter Boxer power unit that will deliver 345 hp (350 PS / 257 kW). The Carrera S will get a more powerful 3.8-liter that will produce 395 hp (400 PS / 294 kW).
2012 Porsche 911
Porsche will launch the new generation of the 911 (998) at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which will be organized this September. Stay tuned for more information.
The UK-based tuners from Merdad really have a thing for Porsche because in the last period they’ve launched many upgrade programs for the 911 and the Cayenne. Their latest project is based on the 997 Turbo S model and it will wear the 997 650-R SS designation.
It will feature a generous number of new body parts, including here an updated front spoiler, modified side skirts, wider wheel arches, a brand new rear bumper, along with a set of ally forged lightweight rims that was created exclusively for Merdad.
We don’t know how much extra oomph the engine will get, but it will definitely output more than the standard 530 hp and 516 lb.-ft of torque. The title suggests that they might tune the engine to output 650 hp – we’ll have to wait and see.
Once more info is revealed; we’ll let you know ASAP.
