Seat Mii Revealed

Seat Mii

This is the first city car launched by Seat after 2005 when the production of the Arosa ended. It is yet another car based on the VW’s Up! model and it is scheduled to go on sale in Spain the next month, while in the rest of Europe it should be available starting with the next spring. In the last part of 2012, a 5-door variant will be launched and just like the Skoda Citigo model, the Mii will have a base price of less than 8,000 pounds.

Seat Mii

Between 1997 and 2005, Seat UK managed to sell only 19,500 Arosas and with the new Mii they hope to improve those figures by offering “value for money”, “best residual values” and “very low insurance ratings.”

Seat Mii

Clients will be able to choose from one of the three available trim levels along with two equipment packages. Opting for “Chic” will get you a chrome pack while choosing “Sport” brings a more sport chassis configuration and tinted windows.

Seat Mii

As for the engines, at first there will be two 3-cylinder, 1.0-liter units that will produce 59 hp and 74 hp. CO2 emissions for the first one are of 105 g/km while the beefier engine emits 108 g/km. Those who order the optional Ecomotive pack that includes energy recuperation and stop/start will help reduce the CO2 emissions to 97 g/km. Aside from the manual gearbox, the Seat Mii can be fitted to an automated manual gearbox that will use “two electric motors to smooth the gear change.”

Seat Mii

A feature that you’ll find mostly on bigger cars will be the City Safety Assist system that uses a laser for detecting cars in front of the vehicle and when driving at speeds of less than 20 mph it will warn the driver of a potential accident and it can also apply the brakes on its own.

Seat Mii

Another feature would have to be the Seat Portable System, which is a 5-inch multimedia device that can be used for the navigation, as an on-board computer or as a hands-free, and it is incorporated in the Mii’s audio system. The Spanish automaker is promising bespoke applications for it in the future and also the possibility to update it over the Internet.

Next Year Brings Four New Seat Models

Seat Ibiza ST

Seat’s boss James Muir stated at the beginning of this week that the Spanish automaker will increase its sales this year by 8-10%, before launching four new models in 2012. He told Auto News Europe that the Alhambra and Ibiza ST models the company launched last year will be the most significant for the increase planned for 2011. Last year, Seat managed to sell 340,000 cars.

Muir became the boss of Seat back in 2009 and last year he revealed a 5-year restructuring plan that was “the last attempt for Seat as a brand”. Next year, we will see the new generation of the Leon, a facelift version of the Ibiza, along with a “totally new entry-level model and a four-door sedan”.

This year Seat will hire 300-800 employees (most of them in Spain) to support the company’s growth as well as manufacture the Audi Q3 at its sole Martorell factory.

As a reminder, a few weeks ago the company announced that they will enter the Chinese market and Muir stated that he wants to sell 800,000 units annually by 2018, as part of Volkswagen’s global growth strategy to become the largest car maker in the world. Analysts predict that the Spanish car manufacturer will become profitable again in 2013. Last year wasn’t very good for the company as they recorded a whopping 311 million Euros loss.

Video: Seat Leon touring car flips during race

Crashes are, sadly, an essential part of motorsport, as contact between cars, either Formula 1 dedicated racers or touring cars, ends up pretty badly.

The latest car crash comes from the UK’s Brands Hatch circuit, where a race in the Seat Leon Euro Cup competition was held.

During the race, Portuguese driver Francisco Carvalho was touched by a fellow racer, which sent his Leon touring car out of control. The car crashed into a barrier which sent it flying over the heads of race officials.

Miraculously, no one was hurt, not even Carvalho, who now has one heck of a story to tell.

Check out the terrifying crash in the video after the jump.
