One of the most expected events from this year’s Geneva Motor Show was, without any doubt, the world debut of the new Volkswagen Scirocco, 34 years after the first one debuted at the same Swiss auto show. The idea behind the Scirocco concept is that VW will offer an affordable sports car (in Germany pricing will start at 21,750 Euros), which can also be used in day-by-day activities.

Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen Group’s Chairman of the Board of Management commented: “What we have done with the Scirocco is to put the kind of sports car in our showrooms that people have dreamed of owning. A dream that a good deal of motorists – in spite of all the high-end engineering we have integrated – can actually afford.”

The Scirocco will be offered with the following powerplants: * Three petrol engines: – 122 hp TSI – 0-100 km/h in 9.7 sec – 200 km/h – 6.1 liters / 100 km – 160 hp TSI – 0-100 km/h in 8.0 sec – 217 km/h – 6.5 liters / 100 km – 200 hp TSI – 0-100 km/h in 7.2 sec – 235 km/h – 7.6 liters / 100 km * One diesel engine:

– 140 hp TDI – 0-100 km/h in 9.3 sec – 207 km/h – 5.4 liters / 100 km

I’m sure everytime you hear about the Volkswagen Touareg, the last thing that comes to your mind is a military vehicle. I mean, if we were talking about a Hummer or a Jeep, that would be ok, but a Touareg? Anyways, for those who can’t figure out a meaning for this (including us), actually there’s a pretty good explanaiton. The Touareg Military Edition was created by Volkswagen to offer an advantage when discussing future military deals, because another current offer, the Mercedes G Class got pretty old, so VW would have some advantages.

The car is finished in matte green paint, is stripped of all its chrome and is powered by VW’s V10 TDI engine that produces 310 hp and 533 ft-lbs of torque. Of course, the military Touareg has all sorts of antennas ans antennas and premium communications systems, plus plenty of recovery hooks at the front and rear and, if really necessary, a machine gun can be mounted on the car’s roof.

We know Volkswagen is working on the next generation of its popular hatchback and here is a spy video of the VW Golf VI. Though camouflaged, we can get an idea of how the Glof will look like. What do you think, you like it? Enjoy!

Honestly, I never believed I will like this car and I was expecting this car to see what Volkswagen will come up with. And my expectations were confirmed: I don’t like it at all. First of all, I don’t get it, why would Volkswagen try to come up with something similar to the Mercedes Benz CLS? And second…it’s ugly. I mean, the front is pretty cool, but what’s with that rear?

Anyways, for those of you which like it, you should know that the car will be available with several engines, starting with a 160 hp 1.8-litre TSI unit, while the top of the line is a 3.6-litre V6 FSI model producing 300 hp. A premiere is that the Passat CC will feature Volkswagen’s new lane hold assist system (if the vehicle appears to be inadvertently leave the lane, the assistance system provides corrective steer control).

“The core markets are North America, Western Europe and Japan. The Passat CC, built in the German Volkswagen plant in Emden, will initially be launched in the second quarter of the year in Europe and then from the fourth quarter in the USA and Canada and later Japan.

We don’t know why, but we really like these VW Touran Commercials. After some time ago we showed you this commercial, here’s another one we like, even though we’re not dads. Enjoy!

Yesterday, VW confirmed what everyone already knew, it’s upcoming four-doors coupe. Volkswagen launched a mini-site for this car, but don’t expect to see the car, as we only have some teaser photographs showing some angles. So we’re as ‘enlightened’ as before. VW said it will make more details available at the start of 2008, so there are good chances we’ll see this car on display at Detroit or at Geneva, the latest.

Among a whole bunch of other cool modified cars, here’s something really strange that made its way to the Essen Motor Show. Presented before the show, this is the ‘Phantoms’ car, created by William Burge, an artist from Houston. I could leave you a whole week and you’d still probably not guess what car’s underneath that strange metal bodywork and gargoyle heads. Well, it’s a 1968 Volkswagen Beetle. Crazy huh?

Scheduled to be presented at the Essen Motor Show, which will start in a few days, the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line is VW’s latest addition to the R line models range. Joining models like the Golf R32 or the Passat R32, the R line package for the Tiguan will feature a sporty interior and exterior, plus some mechanical and engine improvements. That’s about all the details we have so far, but stay tuned, because as the Essen Show approaches we’ll get more on this soon.

However, after the pics we got, the R line isn’t even close to the Tiguan modified by Abt, which will also be on display at the Essen Show. Still, the Tiguan R Line is a pretty good addition to the model range and will be pretty successful, I guess.

After presenting the VW Up! Concept at Frankfurt and Tokyo, here’s another plug-in hybrid from the german carmaker, the Volkswagen Space Up! Concept, which will be on display at this week’s LA Auto Show.

The concept is based on a fuel cell and electric battery hybrid powertrain and is powered by a 45 kw (60 hp) engine. However, VW must wait for a day when longer-lasting batteries will show up to make this concept real, because, when running exclusively on batteries, the Space Up! will go on for 65 miles, which isn’t really an option. However, when the fuel cell is added, the maximum range increases to 220 miles. Still, the performances are not that good, with the concept going from 0 to 62mph (100 km/h) in 13.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 75mph. Not bad!

We’ll probably never see this concept on the road or at least in a VW stand at an auto show, but still, it’s quite a magnificent creation. It was designed by Mark Kirsch, a design student, as his diploma project and is created in collaboration with Volkswagen’s design department in Wolfsburg, Germany.

Mark tried to create an environmental-friendly visionary concept car and was influenced by the renowned architect Santiago Calatrava and follows his “dynamic balance” design philosophy. The Volkswagen Viseo concept features a large glass surface area covered in a flexible OLED film which allows the vehicle to communicate externally.

On November 9, at the Volkswagen plant in Emden, Germany, the 15 millionth Passat produced worldwide rolled out the production line. We have to admit, this is an impressive number. The first Passat was produced in 1973, and the current generation is the sixth. The first generation was produced between 1973-1981, the second one between 1981-1988, the third between 1988-1994, the fourth between 1995-1997, the fifth between 1996-2005 and the current generation debuted in 2005.

The special 15 millionth Passat was a 105 hp Variant BlueMotion 1.9 TDI in arctic blue silver metallic and Volkswagen decided to donate it to DKMS (German Bone Marrow Donor Center).

Volkswagen is pretty brave, being one of the first carmakers to reintroduce diesel engines in the United States. However, in an announcement made today, VW said that the clean diesels won’t be available starting April 2008 (as they initially announced), but starting late summer 2008. This is due to a technical issue, which is most likely related to the high emissions standards that vehicles must abide by in the US.

In a memo addressed to VW dealers, Adrian Hallmark said: “This situation is due to a technical issue that was found during the later stages of durability testing”

The VW Tiguan isn’t even launched yet, and the German tuner Abt already came up with a tuning program for Volkswagen’s small SUV. The program is very impressive, featuring a new aggressive body kit and significant mechanical upgrades.

The body kit features new front and rear spoilers, wider wheel arches, new side skirts and grille, all covered in Abt’s two-toned finish, including new graphite panels. The Abt Tiguan will ‘run’ on new alloy wheels, available in 18″, 19″ or 20″ sizes. And, as we said, the car also has some significant power upgrades. First of all, VW’s 1.4 liter turbocharged FSI engine was modified and the power output was increased for 150 hp to 200 hp. Abt also made changes to the two 2.0 liter diesel engines, which now develop 170 hp (140 hp in the production version) and 200 hp (170 hp in production model). Handling was improved by fitting the car with an adjustable sports suspension and an upgraded braking system.

No performance figures are available so far, but stay tuned, because the modified Tiguan will be on display at the upcoming Essen show and we expect more details to be made available then. Meanwhile, check out more photos after the jump.

German tuner JE Design, responsible for another cool WideBody tuning, of the Audi Q7, created a tuning program for the facelifted Volkswagen Touareg. The powerful, wide body kit features a new front spoiler, new air vents in the front bumper, a set of side sills with air inlet, rear apron attachment and massive wheel arch extensions.

The car is powered by VW’s 5.0 V10 TDI engine, but the power output was increased to 352 hp. Handling was improved by a 35 mm lowered suspension and the car rides on 22 inch ten-spoke wheels finished in matt black. The side sills hold 5 blue LED lights for which create a cool lightning at night. The interior was also modified, featuring a complete carbon make-over and customers can choose from highest quality leather and Alcantara suede for the upholstery and a lot of monitors and electronic gadgets.
